Quick answer: You can build an image gallery in Divi 5 two ways. The native Gallery module comes with Divi: pick your photos, choose a grid or a slider, and every photo opens in a lightbox. The Divi Pro Gallery plugin adds a masonry layout that keeps each photo's shape, category filters, custom links per photo, and a lightbox with zoom, slideshow, full screen and download.
An image gallery shows a set of photos together on one page. It's how most portfolios, product pages and event pages show their work. The Divi Builder has its own Gallery module, and it's fine for many sites. This guide shows both methods step by step, compares them side by side, and explains when the native module stops being enough.
Does Divi 5 have an image gallery module?
Yes. Divi 5 includes a Gallery module. According to Elegant Themes' Gallery module guide, you can choose the images, their order and the number of images per page. You can show or hide each photo's title, caption and the page numbers. The layout is either a Grid or a Slider. Click any photo and it opens in a lightbox, with arrows to move to the next one.
How do you add an image gallery with Divi 5's native module?
- Open your page in the Divi Builder, add a row, and insert the Gallery module.
- Under Images, pick your photos from the Media Library. Set Image Count (how many photos show per page) and Image Order (Default or Random).
- Under Elements, turn the title, caption and pagination on or off. Titles and captions come from each photo's details in the Media Library.
- In the Layout settings, choose Grid or Slider. For a grid, pick the layout style (Flexbox or Grid), the number of columns and the space between them. The module starts with 4 columns.
- Set Thumbnail Orientation to Landscape or Portrait, so every photo in the grid has the same shape.
- Style the Overlay icon and colour that appear when someone points at a photo.
- Save, then check the page on a phone. Two columns usually work best on small screens.
What does the native Gallery module not do?
- No masonry layout. The grid cuts every photo to the same landscape or portrait shape. Tall and wide photos can't keep their real shape side by side. We checked Divi's changelog up to version 5.15.1, and masonry only appears for the Blog module.
- No category filters. Visitors can't click "Branding" or "Print" to see only those photos.
- A basic lightbox. It shows the photo with arrows. There is no zoom, slideshow, full screen, download or share button.
- No link per photo. You can't send each photo to its own project page or product.
For a simple grid of same-shape photos, the native module is enough. For a portfolio with mixed photo shapes or different kinds of work, a gallery plugin saves real time.
How do you add an image gallery in Divi 5 with Divi Pro Gallery?
Divi Pro Gallery is our gallery plugin for Divi. It works in Divi 5 and Divi 4.
- Install and activate Divi Pro Gallery. Then open your page in the Divi Builder and add the Pro Gallery module.
- Under Gallery Images, pick your photos. Set Image Size to Large or Full so photos stay sharp.
- Pick a Gallery Type: Grid, Masonry or Slider. Masonry keeps each photo's real shape, like a Pinterest board.
- Set Columns and Gutter (the space between photos). You can set different columns for desktop, tablet and phone.
- Set Click Action to Lightbox. Under Lightbox Actions, tick the buttons you want: Zoom, Social Share, Slideshow, Full Screen, Download, or Gallery for a strip of thumbnails.
- To add filters, open each photo in the Media Library and fill in Pro Gallery - Tags, like "Branding, Print". Then turn off Hide Filters. A filter bar appears above Grid and Masonry galleries.
- For a big gallery, turn on Show Pagination and set Items Per Page.
- Save, then check the page on a phone.
Want each photo to open its own page instead? Set Click Action to Custom Links and add a URL in each photo's Pro Gallery - Link field in the Media Library. You can try every layout on the Divi Pro Gallery demo, and every setting is explained in the Divi Pro Gallery docs.

Short version: use the native Gallery module for a tidy grid or slider of same-shape photos. Use Divi Pro Gallery when you need masonry, filters, links per photo, or a lightbox with more controls.
Is there a free masonry gallery for Divi 5?
Yes. Divi Masonry Gallery is our free masonry module, on WordPress.org. It works in Divi 5 and lets you set columns for desktop, tablet and phone, and open photos in a lightbox. See it on the masonry gallery demo. If you later need filters, custom links or the full lightbox, move up to the Pro Gallery module.
How do you keep a Divi gallery fast and sharp?
- Resize before you upload. Most gallery photos don't need to be wider than 2,000 pixels. Smaller files load faster.
- Use pagination for big galleries. Showing 12 photos at a time loads much faster than 100.
- Pick the right image size. If photos look blurry in Divi Pro Gallery, set Image Size to Large. If the page feels slow, try Medium.
- Write alt text. Add a short description to each photo in the Media Library, like "Red brand logo on a coffee cup". It helps people using screen readers and helps search engines understand your photos.
FAQ
Does Divi 5 have a gallery module?
Yes. Divi 5's Gallery module shows your photos in a grid or a slider. Clicking a photo opens it in a lightbox.
Can Divi 5 make a masonry gallery without a plugin?
No. As of Divi 5.15.1, the native Gallery module only has grid and slider layouts. For masonry, use the free Divi Masonry Gallery or the Masonry type in Divi Pro Gallery.
How do I add a lightbox to a Divi gallery?
Divi's native Gallery module opens photos in a lightbox on its own. In Divi Pro Gallery, set Click Action to Lightbox, then pick extra buttons like zoom or download under Lightbox Actions.
How do I make a filterable gallery in Divi 5?
Use Divi Pro Gallery. Add tags to each photo in the Media Library's Pro Gallery - Tags field, then turn off Hide Filters. Visitors can then click a tag to see only those photos.
Why are my Divi gallery images cropped?
Divi's native grid cuts every photo to a landscape or portrait shape so the rows line up. Switch Thumbnail Orientation to change the shape, or use a masonry layout to keep each photo's real shape.
Does Divi Pro Gallery work with Divi 4 and Divi 5?
Yes. Divi Pro Gallery works in both, including the Divi 5 Visual Builder.
